At Detroit's North American International Auto Show in Detroit two years ago, Hyundai revealed a concept compact pickup truck that showcased a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine. Not much was heard about it until August, when Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com reported that is set to begin production on a pickup based on that very vehicle.
KBB.com reported that Michael O'Brien, Vice President of Product Planning, told Reuters American car buyers could see a production version of the truck arriving at dealerships as early as next year, with the introduction of the vehicle marking a strategic move by Hyundai to increase its offering of trucks and crossover SUVs in the United States.
While we don't know much about the truck, it's likely that it will be powered by a conventional gasoline engine rather than the turbodiesel exhibited in Detroit. It remains unsure whether the truck will be built as a car-based small truck or an orthodox pickup design.
