Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave both the 2017 Santa Fe and the 2017 Elantra "Top Safety Pick +" ratings, acknowledging Hyundai's ongoing commitment to ensuring safety.
To earn the ratings, the vehicles needed to receive "Good" ratings in the five IIHS crash tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. The vehicles also were required to earn an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating for front crash prevention, and the headlights needed to be rated "Acceptable" or "Good."
Elantra sedans that were built after March 2016 and feature optional front crash prevention and specific headlights earned the rating, as did Santa Fe models built after March 2016 that offer optional front crash prevention and specific headlights .
